UNDERSTANDING THE MINISTRY OF ANGELS PART 1

UNDERSTANDING THE MINISTRY OF ANGELS PART 1
We must understand the service of angels to really enjoy these mighty angels. Our understanding is from scriptures. The Bible is our understanding for our learning in Christ.
2 Timothy 3
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works
The scriptures are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ. When it comes the subject matter of salvation (which is all encompassing for all we have and we are in Christ ), it is through the scriptures we have understanding. The scriptures makes us wise and skillful in the subject matter of salvation. Angels are in salvation in Christ. They are created to serve man who is ordained to inherit salvation in Christ. Notice also verse 16 that our doctrine/teaching and explanation is from the scriptures. The profit of Scriptures is doctrine and explanation. So when it comes to angels, we will derive our explanation from the scriptures and the scriptures alone. We will not look at what is said about angels in fiction, traditions of men or fables. This series will examine, the nature and the work of angels and our authority over devils. This first part will examine in particular the nature of angels.
WHO ARE ANGELS?
Angels are messengers. The word angel is from the Hebrew word mal’âk. It means a dispatch, a deputy; a messenger. An angel is a messenger. He is one who acts for another as a deputy. The word angel in the Greek text was also used for man like the book of Revelation while addressing the pastors/messengers/servants of churches.
Hebrews 1
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
• Kindly go through the above verses again. In verse 7, we see that Angels are SPIRITS and they are ministers (servants). Angels are serving Spirits. They are flames of fire 🔥 in appearance. Angels are God’s ministers. They minister for God by ministering for His man. Notice the superiority of Christ over angels. Angels have power as Spirit beings to serve man but they do not have authority. They walk with the authority of man. This debunks the false belief by some set that Jesus is an angel. No angel was ever referred to as a son of God. Angels are public servants. That word minister in verse 7 means public servant.
Angels are serving Spirits sent forth to serve man who is made to inherit salvation as we see in verse 14 of Hebrews 1.
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Angels are public servants but they render service specific to men. Below are some key things to take note about the nature of angels from the scriptures.
Angels are SPIRITS hence they can take any form in a vision but when they appear physically, they ALWAYS take the form of a man
Angels are SPIRITS. This means that in a vision you can see them in different forms. This can only happen in a vision. Let’s look at some examples from the scriptures.
Isaiah 6
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
Notice it was in a vision Isaiah saw angels with wings . It was the year King Uzziah died he saw this vision. This is not in any way depicting that King Uzziah needed to die first for Isaiah to see the vision. Referencing King Uzziah in verse 1 was simply to mark historically the year . Besides Uzziah was not a bad king. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord as we see in 1 Kings 15:34 and 2 Chronicles 27:2.
The Scripture is able to make us wise into Salvation which is in Christ Jesus. So can we say angels have wings ? Never . Angels can be seen in different forms in a vision. You can see angels as mighty as the earth just like the book of revelation records. Let’s look at some examples where people saw angels physically as man in the scriptures.
Manoah and his wife saw the angel of the Lord as a man of God . Kindly read the full story in Judges 13: 1-30. Let’s look at some verses there .
3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
It was the angel of the lord that appeared to Manoah’s wife but he saw the angel physically as a man. The angel didn’t appear with wings or as a baby. There is no reference for baby angels in the Bible.
We have several other examples from the scriptures of angels appearing as man. In Genesis 18, three men came to Abraham as angels. They even ate the food Abraham prepared . In Genesis 32:24, an angel wrestled with Jacob as a man. In fact in Hebrews 13, we are told that we can entertain angels as men unawares.
Hebrews 13
1 Let brotherly love continue.
2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
So should a believer be desiring to see angels as men ? Never . You will definitely have encounters with angels as men in all your days on earth as long as you remain generous. What matters is that we have angels for us . We can choose to see them in a vision. They are real. They exist as Spirits. They can only be seen in a vision except they take the form of a man . We will learn how to maximize angels in this series.
Angels as Spirits are in heaven. Many times when we hear heaven what comes to our mind is the sky or the abode of God . In the Bible we see that heaven is used, to describe either the abode of God or the sky/atmospheric heaven or the invisible world/the realm of the Spirit. Angels are in the invisible world. Both angels and fallen angels/demons are in this world.
Ephesians 3
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
The Principalities and powers here refers to angels . Notice, they are in the heavenly. The heaven here cannot be referring to the abode of God or the sky. Angels cannot be with God. What will they be doing? Protecting God (Protection) or doing what ? Neither can they be in the sky. They live with man in the invisible world. They were among the invisible things God created.
Colossians 1
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Notice there are things created in heaven and on earth. The invisible things are in heaven. Angels are among the invisible beings created. They are in heaven/the invisible world/the realm of the Spirit.
Angels are not God , hence they are NOT Omniscient/all knowing, NOT omnipotent/all powerful, NOT Omnipresent/everywhere the same time.
Angels are not all knowing. Their knowledge is limited to the knowledge of the man they serve. In Ephesians 3:10, we see that we make known the gospel which is the wisdom of God to angels.
Angels don’t know everything. They only know what the man they serve know per time. The angels even desire to look into the gospel according to 1 Peter 1:12.
1 Peter 1
12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into
The angels desire to look into the message of salvation. They don’t know everything. Angels are so limited in knowledge that they cannot know anything outside man. This debunks the false belief that the devil knows everything. The devil is a fallen angel. The devil functions lesser than an average angel. The devil is so limited in knowledge that he didn’t know the outcome of killing Jesus. He stirred men to kill Jesus not knowing that the death of Jesus is to his destruction. The devil was with Pharaoh hence didn’t know that Moses the deliverer was in the same house with him . The devil with Herod didn’t know where Jesus was till the death of Herod in Matthew 2. This shows us how limited in knowledge angels are .
Angels are not all powerful. We know indeed angels are powerful spirit beings. But angels are not all powerful. Some angels are higher and more powerful than other angels .
Daniel 10
1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. note
2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.
3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
 4 And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;
5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: note
6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
8 Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.
9 Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.
10 And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.
11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days
An angel was sent to give Daniel an understanding as a result of Daniel’s prayer . Notice this angel was withstood by a devil (the prince of Persia) until Michael the Arch angel came. This shows us that Michael is more powerful than the other angel. It is religious illiteracy to be praying against the prince of Persia in Nigeria or another country. Notice also that the devil couldn’t and can never ever stop any prayer from being answered by God . Besides, this devil withstanding the angel can never happen now again that sin and death and the devil has been paralyzed by the work of Jesus.
Only two angels names were mentioned all through the Bible: Michael and Gabriel and Michael was the ONLY one referred to as an arch/chief angel.
Angels definitely have names. We should not be so concerned about knowing their names but learning how to maximize them. Michael was the only one referred to as an Arch angel from the Bible which is our only book of authority.
Daniel 10
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
Jude 1
9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
Gabriel was also mentioned in the Bible.
Luk 1:19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
Luk 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth
Angels excel in Strength. They are very powerful spirit beings.
Psalm 103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word
Angels excel in strength. The word excel (from the Hebrew word gibbôr gibbôr) here means powerful ; by implication warrior, tyrant: – champion, chief, , giant. Angels are mighty spiritual giants . They are powerful in vigor and force . We see in 2 Kings 19:35 and Isaiah 37:36 that one angel killed one hundred and eighty five thousand (185,000.) persons in one night in defending Israel. This shows us how powerful a being an angel can be. Imagine having these beings in innumerable numbers in Christ and you are still afraid? This shows us how far angels can go to deliver if only we know how to work with them which will learn in this series. Angels are powerful spirit beings. As powerful beings, angels can mingle with matter, man , the visible and the invisible world. We see from scriptures that they open prison doors, they amplified the sound of men , they manufactured food hence , manner was called angel’s food. They are indeed very powerful beings. They produced fire to burn Sodom. They made the men that wanted to sleep with them Blind . The Bible is full of mighty wonderful works by men with the help of angels. These mighty angels as powerful as they are cannot do anything without man. They are created to serve man.
Angels always go together in company. This is why we see that an angel can have other angels.
We see Michael and his angels in the book of revelation.
Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels
This shows us that angels have other angels. This explains why when the devil fell , he didn’t fall alone . He has other angels now demons .
Angels are created to minister for and through man. Their strength is to Serve man.
Hebrews 1
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Hebrews 12
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
The great news about these mighty spirit beings called angels is that they are made for man. We have them as innumerable company in Christ. This shows that we have more than enough angels for any supernatural task. Though the man in Christ may look ordinary, he has spiritual might and part of this might is innumerable company of angels. These angels are always with men ready to serve. They are specialist in protection and deliverance. We see severally in the scriptures how angels delivered . In Acts 12, an angel of the Lord delivered Peter from the prison. Apart from deliverance what other things do angels do? Why angels ? What is the role of angels for man and how do we really maximize their mighty power ? All these and many more will be addressed in subsequent parts of this series.
So far in this part, we have seen the nature of angels and who they really are. We have seen their appearance and their strength. We have also seen that they exist for man not God. These mighty angels as powerful as they are cannot do anything without man. They are created to serve man.
I HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH ANGELS FOR ANYTHING I WOULD EVER WANT TO DO. I am blessed with angelic might.
Have you been blessed?
