THE MESSAGE PART 7. BEYOND MEDIUMS

The Message Part 7. The Message is in the giving of God’s Spirit and it is  Beyond Mediums
The Message is Christ. It is centred on what Christ has done and who we are because of what he has done. In the course of this series, we have  seen so many details of the message of Christ. The beauty of this message of Christ is that when a man agrees with the message, he becomes a carrier of God via the Spirit of God. Everything that we have in Christ is in the Spirit that we have received. In the part two of this series, we saw that the message is the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow. For proper understanding of this part please click the links below to read the previous parts.
Part 1. Christ the only message worth preaching.
Part 2. The sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow.
Part 3.  One message, different topics and emphasis.
Part 4. Ministry is in the message.
Part 5. The Message is beyond results.
Part 6. The Message is beyond experiences, supernatural encounters.
In this series, we will be looking at how the message of Christ is beyond physical mediums like olive oil, handkerchief, holy water, and the rests.
First, you must realise that the word of God is superior to any man or any practice. We would rather believe God’s word than men’s practices. In the part 5 of this series, we saw that the message is beyond results; that it is working does not mean it is correct.
In Christ, we have been made temples of God.
1 Corinthians 6
17  But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
19  What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
When a man believes in Jesus, he becomes one with God. His body  becomes the temple of God’s Spirit. The word temple (naos) means sacred place, shrine. It was  used as shrine in Acts 19:24. You are the shrine of God. You carry God any where you go. This should  be your consciousness wherever you are. Your Faith should not rest on physical mediums like oil and water.
Man of God, what of olive oil?  I thought it is the anointing oil that we have. Let’s see the scriptural description of the anointing oil under the law.
Exodus 30
22  Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
23  Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
24  And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin:
25  And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. note
26  And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony,
27  And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense,
28  And the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot.
29  And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy.
30  And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.
31  And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.
32  Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.
33  Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.
Please read verse 31 to 33 again.  You will notice that first, the oil was not to be poured on any flesh. Also that no one is allowed to make anything similar.  Even strangers outside the law are not allowed use it.  Hence, we cannot say that this is the same oil that is used as a practice today in churches. You can choose to use oil or other mediums but never make a practice of it. The anointing you have is the Spirit of God within you not the oil. Believing that there is anything special about any oil will make you be acting like a child. You may as well choose to use sand, urine or anything as medium. Nothing special about any oil to the man in Christ.
What of mantles ? Clothes or handkerchief ?
I have seen scenarios where believers instead of using the authority in Christ to address issues, they are raising one clothe or the other. But you say it is working. It is working does not make it correct. Many times, we carry the practices of traditional fetish religions to what we do in Christ. It would work because you placed faith in it. But the big question is, what happens when you don’t have the cloth that day? Resting on mediums instead of your authority in Christ will make you be acting like a baby.   What of Apostle Paul ? Did he not use mantle ?
Acts 19
11  And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12  So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
If you read the scriptures above carefully, you will not see anything like Paul starting a movement on the power of handkerchief. Neither did he start teaching people the power in an apron. No. Paul was a workman. There were many people  to minister to. So his handkerchief and apron ( a linen covering which work men or servants used to wear ) were used to heal sick folks and cast out devils. The other places Paul ministered, you never see where he told them to come take his handkerchief or apron. It is not bad to use mediums especially when you have a large number of persons to minister to, when you are tired or when the person to be ministered to is not physically present . Making a practice of it will make you a weakling.
The power of God we have is in the Spirit we have received not in any medium.
Acts 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
It is this power that enables us to bear witness of Christ effectively. Christ is the power of God in this gospel. You must learn to acknowledge this power in you and have a mastery of its use. Never depend on earthly things like water. There is nothing holy about any water. We only have holy people using water. You are the one made holy, set apart in Christ. If you choose to use any medium, realise that you are the one that has the power not the medium. As a pastor, never teach your people to rely on mediums but on the power of God in them.
The Message remains Christ, in that he died for our sins so that we can have His Spirit. Watch out for the next part of this series: The Message is centred on the graciousness of God.
