CHRIST, OUR INTERCESSOR AND MEDIATOR
There is so much to learn and unlearn about what Jesus has done. In this series, we will be looking at the intercessory work of Jesus. What does it mean when we say Christ is our intercessor or our mediator? Several people have allowed movies, stories and fables to frame what they believe as regards the intercessory work of Christ. Many times when people hear the word intercede what comes to their mind is Jesus kneeling before the father in a throne begging for the world. This is one of the commonest fables not in the Bible, it is not scriptural. Similar fable is the story of God about to blow the trumpet, then Jesus will say please don’t blow it, they are not ready. I died for them. Holy Ghost will say ride on, there is too much sin in the world. This is very untrue. First Who is Jesus ? GOD. Who is The Holy Ghost ? The spirit of God. Who is the father ? God. They are ONE. We serve one God, One spirit, One saviour and One Lord.
Ephesians 4
. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
You will never see in the scriptures three separate God. Even from the beginning. If we serve One God, how then do we think that Father and Jesus would be having separate intentions ? How can father be angry with the world and Jesus is begging ? Are they confused ? Never. So this is never true. These are all Christian fables not in the Bible.
WHAT THEN DOES IT MEAN WHEN WE SAY CHRIST IS OUR MEDIATOR, OR INTERCESSOR?
First let us look at what the intercessory Ministry of Jesus entails.
Romans 8: 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Observe in the above scripture, that verse 33 talks about the justification of those in Christ. No man can lay a charge against God’s elect no man can condemn the believer. The only person that should have been able to is Christ who died for us. Notice His death, His being at the right hand and His intercession is at parallel. First, when we hear right hand of God, we should not be thinking of RIGHT HAND SIDE. Right hand here Is metaphoric for a place of authority, Not a physical place. This right hand will be further explained in my next series on the Believers’ authority. Notice in the same verse 34 that in the same place of authority Christ makes intercession for us. The word intercession is from the Greek word entugchanō it means to light upon a person or a thing, fall in with, hit upon, a person or a thing , Make intercession for any one. This word is derived from two words. en which means in, by or with, and tugchanō which means to hit the mark, to attain, to reach. Intercession therefore combining the two meanings will be to go in between to hit the mark. Sin means to miss the mark, to side step. Jesus intercession is in the fact that He paid for the sins of mankind so as many that believe in him have life. Some people believe Jesus came to pay God the sacrifice of sin. This is another fable not in the Bible. Let’s look at John 3. 16. God SO LOVEDTHE WORLD HE GAVE HIS SON. God was made flesh in His son Jesus because of His love for mankind not because of His anger. Jesus didn’t come to make God good, He came as THE EXPRESS IMAGE OF GOD. For more on this, click here to read my post on GOD’S SELFIE. God and Christ can never be on two different sides. IT IS NOT WHO DID JESUS PAY TO? IT IS WHAT DID JESUS PAY FOR. ? HE paid for the penalty of sin. THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH.
Romans 6: 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
The wages, the consequence, the payment of sin is death. What God gives is eternal life. But for this life to be given, sin has to be paid for. Here lies the essence of God being made flesh in Christ to pay for sin so man can have life. This is the summary of the intercessory ministry of Jesus. His intercession is in what He has done for us. This is also His mediation. In that He paid THE full sacrifice for our sin.
Galatians 3.20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
One mediator between God and man. A mediator is some one that goes in between. Some one who intervenes between two persons to restore peace. Adam brought sin into the world. Romans 5:12. This called for the need of reconciliation between man and God. Then God became flesh in Christ to reconcile man to Himself. This is His mediation. The only mediator we have is Christ and what He has done for us. No man can stand for man before God. It is Only God that can and He has done It in Christ. Now we have peace with God. No more demarcation between man and God. This is the story of Love that God became man to bring man back to Himself. It is because of this we now have THE life of God.
THE ETERNAL NATURE OF CHRIST INTERCESSORY MINISTRY
The work that Jesus did is eternal. When we speak of His intercession, it is once and for all eternity. This is what makes people to think that He is forever kneeling before the father begging for the people He died for which is not true.
Hebrews 7 :25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them
No saviour like Jesus. He saves us to the ending. He ever lives to make intercession for us. What does this mean ? What He has done is forever . He died for our sin so He can live in us. His death, burial, resurrection and ascension into our heart stands forever. So many people are interested in knowing where Jesus is now. In you if you born again. You are in Him, and He is in You. This is the present an eternal nature of His intercession that HE WILL NEVER BE SEPARATED FROM YOU. THAT WHERE YOU ARE IS WHERE HE IS FOREVER. You should never see Jesus far from You. Remember when Jesus was on earth, He told His disciples, I will go and I will come again. His Going is His coming to dwell in you through the Spirit.
John 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
He will go to the father so as to come again. Now when He said MY FATHER IS GREATER THAN I, He was not doing comparison with the father. He was actually saying His going to the father is greater than His physical presence. His Going to the father is being in You. In John 1.18 it is said that Jesus declared the father. He reveals the father. He is the father made flesh, so He can not be comparing himself with the father. Many people want to see and know a physical Jesus. But, He wants us to know Him by revelation. All through the book of John, you will see whenever Jesus talks about His going and coming into our heart, He talks about it as a greater experience. Besides that was why He came. He came to die for the world so He can live in them. It has always been the dream of the father to live and work in man. Even when Christ returns, He will appear from HIS BODY, the Church. We shall see Him and we shall be Like Him and put on immortality. What will make all this happen is already done. It is the surety of Christ intercession that we know THAT THE MAN IN CHRIST CAN NEVER BE FOUND IN HELL. The chief Judge of the whole earth is the same person that died for us. He is the same person that ever makes intercession for us by LIVING IN US. If you ever be found in hell you will still be with Jesus.
The believer and the Church is the heaven that God dwells in. Many people are painting pictures of physical heaven. Apart from the atmospheric heaven which is the sky and the planetary bodies, heaven is never a physical location. Now God dwells in heaven. The same heaven that we dwell in with Christ. God lives in us. God is forever stock to believer. Where YOU ARE IS WHERE HE FOREVER IS. This is His intercession. The dream of the Father has come through. He now has a dwelling place, You the believer. His work on earth is done. Even though we have not received immortal bodies, He is reigning and LIVING in us and through us even now.
Wow
